HOW WILL GOOGLE FIND THE
REST OF MY SITE IF I ONLY SUBMIT MY HOME PAGE?
You actually don't have to submit your home page in
order for Google to find it. Here it is, straight from the horse's
mouth:
"Google is a fully automated search engine, which
employs robots known as 'spiders' to crawl the web on a monthly
basis and find sites for inclusion in the Google index. Since
this process does not involve human editors, it is NOT necessary
to submit your site to Google in order to be included in our index.
In fact, the vast majority of sites listed are not manually submitted
for inclusion. "
So what should you do? Make sure there's a link to
your site from another page on a site that's already in Google's
index. The other pages will eventually get listed but it may take
some time as Google tends to add inside pages more slowly than
index pages. "Google's robots jump from page to page on the
Web via hyperlinks, so the more sites that link to you, the more
likely it is that we'll find you quickly."
Of course, that does not mean you should use any artificial
interlinking of the websites. Do not link to sites that are in
no way associated to the theme of your site nor to those that
even slightly resemble FFA lists or low quality portals. Though
it might get your site indexed, it will certainly not contribute
to the relevancy of your website. Think about the user and not
the search engines! The links should be quality links, revealing
the destination they lead to and the useful information it will
provide the user.
Another approach to consider in effort to get in Google's
index is to get your site included in ODP, Netscape's Open Directory
Project (DMOZ). Often times once your site is included in ODP
it will eventually get indexed by Google as well. |
